The rapid growth of online learning has made just about every college across the U.S. and overseas stand up and take notice. This is especially true of some of the world’s top business schools and their MBA programs. Less than two years ago, Marshall School of Business at University of Southern California (USC) launched a 21-month Online MBA, and just last Fall, Penn State launched its redesigned Online MBA led by Smeal College of Business.
University of Kansas School of Business joined the club by launching a fully online two-year MBA, and Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland launched its 21-month Online MBA. Touro University Worldwide (TUW) became a member off the group by launching an accelerated 12-month program that could be completed entirely online, and the world’s first tuition-free, accredited Online university (University of the People) launched a brand new MBA program. And the list goes on.
This is all exciting news for prospective MBA students who would like to be among the first to try a new Online MBA program offered by a top-tier school. This month, we are happy to report that three top business schools have just announced that they are now offering a number of new opportunities for students seeking an Online MBA. They include the School of Business at University of Dayton, Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business, and the School of Business Administration at Texas Wesleyan University.
University of Dayton – Dayton, Ohio
The School of Business at University of Dayton is now accepting applications for its new Online MBA program. Marketed as the MBA@Dayton, the program is offered in partnership with 2U Inc., “one of the foremost education technology companies in the U.S.” Students in the program will have two options: a 48 credit general MBA and a 30 credit Advanced Standing MBA. According to the school, “the Advanced Standing MBA is primarily for individuals with a recent undergraduate degree in business.” Students with significant work experience may also qualify for the program “by leveraging their experience as credit toward their MBA to complete their degree in as little as one year.”
The general MBA “is designed for individuals with a limited business background who wish to increase their career options or sharpen critical business skills.” Per the school, “University of Dayton faculty and executives-in-residence will teach weekly courses through live online classes and seminars, accessed through a highly interactive and mobile online campus. The design offers the intimacy of an on-campus classroom with the online flexibility sought by today’s MBA students.”
Students in the program can expect to take classes such as Performance Measurement and Control Systems Perspective, Business Intelligence, Operational Effectiveness, Information Systems and Business Decisions, Organizational Behavior, Principled Organization: Integrating Faith, Ethics and Work, Business Strategy, and Statistical Analysis for Business Decisions. In addition to unique courses, this AACSB accredited program also includes minimal in-person immersion experiences on the Dayton campus and in cities around the country. Per the school, “these collaborative learning experiences give you opportunities to learn from influential business leaders, engage in group workshops and network with your peers.”
Established in 1850 as St. Mary's School for Boys, the University of Dayton is a top-tier Catholic research university that serves nearly 11,000 students. The school offers more than 80 undergraduate programs, more than 50 master’s degree programs, and 12 doctoral programs across five schools. The University of Dayton is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).
Santa Clara University – Santa Clara, California
Starting in January 2018, Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business (SCU LSB) will offer “the first fully online version of its nationally recognized MBA program.” Per the school, “the new offering responds to the demands of busy working professionals with a program steeped in the mindset of Silicon Valley, with cutting-edge curricula and unparalleled networking opportunities in the nation’s birthplace of innovation.” The 70-unit program may be completed entirely online in just two years.
Sample courses include Doing Business in Silicon Valley, Leading People and Organizations, Business Analytics, Ethics for Managers, Analysis, Design, and Management for Enterprise Platforms, Marketing Strategies and Decisions, Ethics for Managers, Managerial Economics, and Strategy. To refine the degree, students may take 28 units of “free” electives. These courses may be taken at any time during the program. The SCU LSB Online MBA program is currently accepting applications.
Founded in 1851, Santa Clara University (SCU) is known as “The Jesuit University in Silicon Valley.” The school is home to nearly 5,500 students enrolled in 50 majors, minors, and programs. SCU is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Leavey School of Business is accredited by the Association for Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).
Santa Clara University is in the process of seeking approval for the Online MBA program from its institutional accrediting body, the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). Santa Clara is able to accept applications for the program but cannot make admissions decisions or begin instruction for the program, until it has WSCUC approval.
Texas Wesleyan University – Fort Worth, Texas
The School of Business Administration at Texas Wesleyan University (TWU) is launching a new and “innovative” 100% Online MBA that students can complete in as little as one year. The program highlights seven flexible starts per year, an accelerated format, and three concentrations including Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, and Health Care Administration. Sample courses include Critical Thinking and Impactful Communication, Global Perspectives in Business, Managing Information Technology in Business, Accounting Analysis for Decision Making, Leadership, and Integrated Marketing Management.
Other program highlights include the option to take refresher courses, condensed seven-week courses, and GMAT waivers. Potential students can apply to this AACSB accredited program any time.
Founded in 1890, Texas Wesleyan University is home to nearly 2,700 students enrolled in dozens of programs across four schools and a graduate division. TWU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
