Montana is home nearly two dozen recognized colleges and universities. Most offer business programs, but very few offer Online or Distance MBA Programs. Fortunately, Montana’s neighboring states offer many options for those seeking a relatively local Online MBA. Before we take a look at the list of options in neighboring states, let’s take a look at what Montana has to offer.
Top Accredited Montana Business Schools
There are three business schools in Montana that have been accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB). They include The School of Business Administration at University of Montana, the College of Business at Montana State University (Bozeman), and the College of Business at Montana State University-Billings. Of the three schools, the School of Business Administration at University of Montana (Missoula) offers the only Distance MBA.

According to the School of Business Administration at University of Montana, the 32 credit hour Distance MBA employs “the latest technology to deliver our courses primarily as two-way, digital video-conferences linking several major classroom sites across Montana. This distributed learning network is comprised of nearly identical classrooms across the State of Montana” in Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Helena, Great Falls, and Kalispell. “Each classroom can accommodate between 15 and 30 students and most of the professional program courses are delivered through compressed digital video over a public/private telecommunications network across the state.”
The curriculum for the Distance MBA is identical to the On-Campus MBA Option and classes for the program are “regularly scheduled Monday-Thursday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.” Distance MBA students can “interact during class with the instructor and with students attending night classes in other communities in a user-friendly, live video environment.” Although the Distance MBA Program may be completed in just one year, if needed students are allowed up to five years for completion of the program.
As Montana only offers one schools with a Distance MBA program, students seeking a relatively local Online MBA option may want to consider the following ranked programs in the neighboring states of Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming:
